Today's Tendril...

Everybody knows,
     That when "anything goes,"
The rules still remain,
     For those with a brain.

The DNA of The Big Bang Theory

The next step in the intellectual evolution of human beings is to be found in DNA of its so-called misfits:

Dweebs.

Nerds.

Anoraks.

And the misfits shall claim the earth through the power of their intelligent design and deep thinking.

A Letter, of Sorts

Dear God,

I know there are no extra heartbeats in a life.

No spare minutes.

No catch-up days.

And I know that the phrase, "there's always tomorrow," is a hopeful lie, because there's only the ever present now and the inevitable final curtain.

But if there were extra heartbeats, spare minutes, catch-up days, and a promise that tomorrow will come, then I'd gladly give some of mine to one other, so that we—two ends of a line—could spend more time together...somewhere in the middle.

Eternally grateful, and still hoping against hope,

Your Wondering Son

Three Tendrils for Today

If a snowman falls in the woods, and no one is around, does it make a sound?

Is it OK for a snowman to eat yellow snow?

Do snowwomen have body issues?

About

Did a critical analysis of winter-themed Calvin & Hobbes strips lead to this set of Tendrils?

Or, was I simply pondering a melting snowman, from an odd mental angle, when these three errant questions alighted upon my thoughts?

Or, was it something simple, like keeping things jovial during a family holiday gathering?

P.S. It was the last one.

Sonic Verse: Review of Celldweller's Transmissions Vol. 01

Released today (2014.12.23) exclusively through FiXT, Celldweller's Transmissions Vol. 01 is a collection of instrumentals showcasing Celldweller's more synth-centric, ambient, and noise-scape sides.

Several of Transmissions Vol. 01 tracks were first made available under the banner of Because I Can (BIC) via Celldweller's YouTube channel. (The BIC YouTube series has been renamed to Transmissions.)

I enjoyed the BIC/Transmissions tracks when connected, but was disappointed that I couldn't listen to the tracks offline, so kudos to Celldweller for releasing them in album format. (And at a reasonable price.)

I fully expect to have Transmissions Vol. 01 in my playlist rotation for quite some time.

For those looking for parallels or comparisons, here's my take (your mileage may vary)—

If you enjoy the Celldweller tracks "La Puerta Del Diablo," from Soundtrack for the Voices in My Head, Vol. 01, "Distants" and "Adrift on Celestial Seas," from Soundtrack for the Voices in My Head, Vol. 02, and "On the Surface of Scardonia" and "A Dystopian Utopia," from Blackstar Act One: Purified (Original Score), then this release is for you. (I really like the aforementioned Celldweller releases. They represents albums that are always in my active music library.)

If you're into Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber's project, Synaesthesia, and/or their Delerium albums between 1989 and 1994 (Morpheus through Spheres 2), then Celldweller's Transmissions Vol. 01 is likely to appeal to you.

Today's Tendril...

The trouble with "poetic justice" is that it occurs, more often than not,
at the tip of a pen,
in a sequence of a screenplay,
or in the story of a song.

Three Tendrils for Today

It's not all "lollipops and rainbows," especially when it's mostly "charcoal and dark clouds."

The more you try to change a tiger's stripes, the more you realize that you're just pissing off the tiger.

Three Tendrils for Today

We count our blessings and are thankful, until our blessings can be counted on one hand; then, our thanks becomes angst.

Weasel words are sly like a fox.

When you make a wish and blow out the candles, just remember that ugly won't go away. <Wink-wink>

Said the...

Somewhere and somewhen on a cold winter's night, a conversation culminates...

"Every season dies, child," said the angel to the orphan.

"Do not cry for the naked trees. Do not shiver at the sight of animals plodding through snow. Do not get lost in the sadness of short days and long nights.

"Rejoice that you are alive, awake, and aware, and that your memories and your wishes are merely bookends to the ever present now."

The End

Silver Streak

Today I watched you leave,
In a silver streak,
Heading with purpose,
For a different tomorrow.

My heart waved good-bye,
But my arms were frozen at my side,
And all that I should have said,
Was being poured into the wishing well of "what ifs."

So in silence I watched the silver streak become a gray dot,
Until the gray dot was nothing more
Than just another point in the horizon.
A horizon that's always in my sky,
But one that I never seem to reach.

Today I watched you leave,
In a silver streak,
And all that was left
Was a tear,
An ache,
And a final good-bye.
