Today's Tendril...

Reflection without introspection is like staring at a mirror—in the dark.

Logic of Appearances 1

Point and whisper.
Logic of appearances.
Condemn on sight.
Logic of appearances.
Image over substance.
Logic of appearances.
Acceptance feeds expectation.
Logic of appearances.
Acceptability in context.
Logic of appearances.

But no book is its cover,
And no mirror is its face.

Salve 2

Fingers love to point.
Eyes love to pry.
Emotion is a pendulum.
So trust in the mirror,
Because the mirror does not lie.

Said the...

Said the shadow in the mirror, "I'm not your slave. I'm not your demon. I'm not your fault denying pride. I'm just your conscience, but from me you cannot hide."

Today's Tendril...

Maturity is a mirror that knows better than to lie.

Or crack.

Today's Tendril...

Age is just a number, until the mirror "proves" otherwise (or provides other lies).

To Be

I am becoming—
    Befuddled,
    Bemused,
    Bemoaned,
    Beleaguered,
    Bewitched,
    Bedeviled,
    Begotten.

I am between question and answers,
    Between actions and words,
        Between beginnings and ends.

I am becoming my worst enemy,
    Or so the mirror claims.

So I'll drape the mirror with a black veil,
And trap the ghosts and demons beneath,
Then let it fall to the floor
To become the pieces of nevermore.

A Daydreamer's Bucket List

  1. Create tornadoes the size of spinning tops and hold them in the palms of my hands
  2. Fly — under my own power
  3. At will, turn my eyes entirely white, then make them glow
  4. Take a nap — on the Moon
  5. Pluck clouds from the sky and eat them
  6. Step into a mirror and explore the other side
  7. Make an origami dragon come to life and then go on adventures with it
  8. Discover lost verses to the Book of Revelations
  9. Spend a few nights in a little cottage on the Island of Misfit Toys
  10. Finally catch a rainbow

Tendrils 15: Musings and Odd Angles

Sin is a house of cards.

Conscience is a wrecking ball.

What is a nightmare?

A subconscious scream in search of a voice.

Destiny is a haunted dream that repeats itself with the same ghosts, though the settings and the scenes are never the same.

Q: What is grey, grouchy, and a force to be reckoned with?

A: A constipated rhino!

Just because there isn't a cross around my neck doesn't mean there isn't one in my heart.

No turning point ever comes without a price—and a battle with a mirror.

Impulse is like a lightning bolt — it arrives without warning, leaves a permanent mark, and disappears without a trace before you realize that it's not wise to be outside when a storm is overhead.

Tendrils 13: Variations on a Grey Theme

These variations on a theme,
Are bits and pieces of a dream.

And in between the written lines,
     Are shades of grey,
          With prickly spines...

It's hard to be grey in a rainbow world.

It's hard to be the only grey cloud in a sea of blue sky and overwhelming sunshine.

Calm need not mean grey,
And sad need not mean blue.
Scared isn't yellow,
     And green doesn't envy you.

Said the Mirror to the Self, "You're so different today, that even your shadow is a different shade of grey."

What is G.R.A.Y.? Glum. Reclusive. Apathetic. You.

When skies turn grey, don't run away.

But when they're green, swirls may be seen.

Life in Too

Life's too short to walk the long path of despair.
Write your pain on a piece of paper,
Then tear it into a million pieces.

Life's too precious to cheapen it with lies.
    "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
Keep watch at the door of my lips."

Life's too open to box yourself in.
    Lift the lid;
        Let in the light.

Life's too big to go at it alone.
    Be guarded, but not isolated.
        Let someone in, eventually.
            (Other than the undertaker.)

Life's too easily missed trying to "do it all."
    Stop and smell the roses.
        Trite, but true.
