Tendrils

There are times when the path from idea to artwork takes you down rat holes, tumbling through rabbit holes, and into black holes.

The artist and the scientist know too well the meaning of begat.

Sure, an umbrella keeps the rain off of you, but what does it matter when you choose to play in the rain?

Simplicity is a tadpole that becomes a frog (or a toad).

Simplicity is a rat hole, if you let it.

For artists, engineers, and scientists alike, keeping it simple is easier said than done.

If balance and equilibrium were states of perfection, then we'd never know the wonders of frost or the jewels of dew.

Complexity is a Frankenstein stitched from the fabric of simplicity.

Chasing the possibilities can be a lot like chasing windmills.

At some point you have to accept that you're stuck in the quagmire of choice, especially when you're reaching for the clouds.

It's amazing how this, 8^), can cause so much consternation.

About

What started out as a simple ASCII image (complete with tagline) turned into a tree with many branches.

So, I climbed, and leapt, and swung, and chased a few squirrels.

I fell a few times, but, luckily, I didn't break any bones, though my spirit did suffer a few hairline cracks.

Still, a good time was had by all (me, myself, and I). Equally important is that I learned a few things along the way about myself and the world around me.

Without further ado, I present additional branches from the TGR (AF) tree. (Squirrels not included.)

  • TGR (AF) started out as a simple experiment on my smartphone, using Word To Go (nice app). Here's the seed that became the tree:

  • TGR (AF) branched into three other very different images and at least two of them will be available at TaT in the future (God willing)
  • One TGR (AF) branch became the poem, "Choices," completed and published before TGR (AF)
  • The background started out as a mash-up of cloudscapes and contains remnants of that branch (buried in layers and visual stitches)
  • The Tendrils collection has a thematic emphasis on choice, process, and paths
  • "Soul Star (Surviving the Darkness)" is derived from TGR (AF)
  • TGR (AF) and Soul Star (StD) do not contain occult symbolism. Those are stars in the background and nothing more
  • If this piece had a soundtrack, it would be Hear 'n Aid's "Stars," which came into my head after I completed TGR (AF) (after-the-fact associations are branches, too)
