Snippet from an Imaginary Conversation

<Interviewer> How do you pronounce your last name?

<Me> The same way that my parents do.

 I mean, is there something about pronouncing your last name that we should know about?

<M> Yes. The Q is silent. So is the W.

 Your last name doesn't contain a Q. Or a W.

<M> Exactly.

 Exactly? Exactly what? That doesn't make any sense.

<M> Sure it does. On Nonsense Day.

 That's not a real thing. There's no such thing as "nonsense day."

<M> That's just utter nonsense.

 Yes. Exactly. Nonsense. This entire conversation has been nonsense. It's all nonsense!

<M> Well, then, welcome to Nonsense Day!

 Arrrgh!!!

Signs

I prayed, send me a sign,

But all that I received was news of war; of crime.

I said, show me a sign,

But all that I saw was a river of red and a sky of green.

I shouted, GIVE ME A SIGN!

But all that I heard was the ringing of distant church bells.

I'm ready to accept an omen divine,

So why won't You send me,

A heavenly sign?

In the fog of longing, or the frenzy of lust, good judgment is bound, gagged, and tossed into a closet.

And that's why regret is only viewable through the long lens of 20/20 hindsight.

A Very Short Story about Some Friends

Once upon a time there was Integrity.

Integrity was solid. Integrity was consistent. Integrity was happy.

Then one day Integrity met Opportunity and Opportunity's odd pal, Shady.

All three became fast friends and spent a lot of time together.

In fact, Integrity spent so much time with Shady and Opportunity that they all decided to become housemates.

But after living together for a while, the darnedest thing began to happen — they started to look, sound, and act alike.

Integrity began sounding like Shady and Opportunity. Shady started dressing like Integrity. And Opportunity acted like Shady, but spoke like Integrity.

Things went on like this for so long that eventually no one, not even the three friends, could tell where one ended and the other began.

A tortoise, slow, steady, and determined.
A viper, quick to strike and quick to recoil.
A camel, designed to withstand long periods of dry spells.
A songbird, pretty, melodic, and ready to fly.
A spider, with many eyes and a sticky web.
A leach, that attaches and draws without notice.
